Women of Cascadia, the Crazy Jane Composers, return for their fifth-annual concert of new chamber, vocal, and electronic music, exploring the notion of “prevailing” in all its permutations: strength, triumph, persistence, overcoming, relentlessness, conquering and victory. Local performers are featured in music for various combinations of flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, piano, voice, electronics, violin, and cello, including several world and west-coast premieres.
Crazy Jane Composers are members of Cascadia Composers, a regional chapter of the National Association of Composers USA. We are local, sustainable, and musical, and we invite you to enjoy our adventurous concert.
Our muse for this annual project is Crazy Jane, a fictional character created by Irish poet W.B. Yeats and based on a real person. Yeats admired Crazy Jane for her audacity, lust for life, and satirical eye. In the tradition of strong, mythical, Celtic women who feel they have earned the right to speak their minds, Crazy Jane defended herself and her passionate stance with a whimsical but no-nonsense attitude.
