May 10, 2021 @ 7:30 pm
Free1st: Drew Swatosh
Drew Swatosh (they/them), along with librettist Brain Dang, is composing a 20 minute chamber opera as part of the Seattle Opera Creation Lab. The opera “If Only I Could Give You The Sun” is a trans adaptation of the myth of Icarus and Daedalus that explores coming to terms with being trans/non-binary and the joy of facing your fears when the future is unknown.

2nd: Elizabeth Dyson — Music for One
“I will be presenting “Not A Dance Suite,” a set of three pieces I wrote recently for unaccompanied cello. Two of the pieces were composed for Cascadia Composers’ “In Good Hands” concert coming up this summer, and I added one more to make a set of three. Because of COVID restrictions, the pieces are unaccompanied. I will talk about how I used traditional and extended cello techniques to create a variety of musical sounds and textures using only the cello.”
