Free and open to the public!

Social Time: ~7:15PM PST / Presentation begins: 7:30PM PST

Presenter: Mark Vigil

Topic: “The craft of transcription is all about dexterity”

I will present 1st my octet “Wildflowers” (1993) for various instruments and then secondly I will present my “Wildflowers2” (2024) a transcription of my octet for concert band. Yes, you heard right, for concert band. Concert band music is so cool. You know Stravinsky wrote a piece for concert band.

Mark Vigil bio

I was born in Spokane Washington in 1954. I became interested in music because of the influence of my mother and also because of the music of the Beatles. My mother loved the music of Chopin. I became enthralled with the music of Debussy and Ravel of Mahler and Ralph Vaughn Williams all on my own.  I did my undergraduate work at Cornish College of the Arts located in Seattle. I did my graduate work at the University of Oregon School of Music located in Eugene Oregon. I also studied composition privately for 10 years with Tomas Svoboda of Portland. Like all of you, my love for composition means everything to

me. I’d swim across an ocean of time and experience just so I could rent a room with a piano in it and get to work.
